I know I am catering to a rather large audience with this post but I am going to get one thing out of the way first.
I don’t watch Love Island.
I know I don’t know how this is possible as it has literally dominated my Facebook and Twitter feed for weeks now. I am a huge lover of Big Brother but I haven’t even watched that this year and I honestly don’t know why.
I have seen 1 episode of Love Island with my flatmate and I did enjoy watching it, I just haven’t been keeping up to date. What I did notice while I was watching was the incredible villa worth £2.5 million they are staying in…how could you not fall in love there?
Where is Love Island?
Love Island 2017 is based on the lovely Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands. As Love Island has now finished I know you guys will be having serious withdrawal symptoms, well why not go ahead and book yourselves to go?
Tourists are flocking…are shall I say Caroline Flacking (I’m sorry bad jokes) to Mallorca. Many of you have been asking if you can stay in the Love Island Villa. 2016 saw Mallorca’s busiest tourism year so far and this is only set to increase with an increase of approximately 16% to 13 million tourists. With scenes on Love Island making you all very envious lets find out where this villa is and can you stay there?
The famous Villa is based in Ses Salines, it is a small village on the South-East of Mallorca. Sadly the villa’s exact location is yet to be revealed. This is of course such a shame but you never know they could release this out to rent for what I can imagine a pretty hefty price but there will be lots of interest.
I apologise being the bringer of bad news but this does not stop you getting there! The main airport for Mallorca is Palma de Mallorca Airport. This is an international airport with airlines such as Easyjet, Jet2 & even Ryanair flying regularly.
To get to Ses Salines there are a number of options. You can go by bus which takes approx. 2hrs and you will change buses in Plaça Ramon Llull. You can get a taxi which takes approx. 40 minutes or you can drive if you fancy hiring a car.
Where to stay:
Unfortunately as you can’t currently stay in the villa, you can still find a great alternative. There are several villas you can check out for yourself that look great and would be perfect for both families and a large group of friends. Check out the options on Home Away.
My personal favourite would be checking out Air BnB, I have had 2 experiences so far booking with Air Bnb and both experiences have been amazing. There are loads of listings to choose from and I would advise doing the filters to have a look for Super-hosts so you know who you are staying with is recognised for being great. Most of the listings you will be renting out the entire home just like having your own private villa.
What to do:
- Check out Palma, the capital of Mallorca. Hire a bike and check out the beautiful sights, for a days hire it costs approx. £12: http://palmaonbike.com You can check out the stunning Gothic Cathedral with entrance costing £6: http://catedraldemallorca.org
- Get on a Tapas + Drink crawl. I would recommend a pub crawl but you do need to be careful as some have a bad name and I think this one will be a lot better for you. This is known as the Ruta Martiana and a collection of bars in Palma have teamed together to offer a special time every Tuesday. You are offered small tapas & a caña of beer for €2-3. It is great value for money as it runs from 19:00-until closing time!
- Browse the local markets. Almost every place in Mallorca run a weekly market and luckily run these on a different day of the week. Some of the most popular are Alcúdia, Inca & Palma: check out the schedule https://www.seemallorca.com/markets/
- Get fit with a spot of rock climbing. Mallorca is the perfect place for climbing, Rock and Ride can provide walking to suit all levels. You can take introductory classes from €60, it will be a great way to balance out those hangovers with some exercise.
I hope I have given you some great insights to get a holiday booked to a place that I know is fond in your thoughts at the moment. Mallorca is a great and very popular holiday destination. If you are missing Love Island what’s stopping you get yourself there!
